Great Fun and Learning Experience : About 7000 children come to visit our farm with their school or daycare every fall.

About 7000 children come to visit our farm with their school or daycare every fall. The tour program changes a little every year for each age group but continues to be great fun and learning experience for the children and their chaperones. There are a number of time slots during the weekdays that you can choose from. Tours are given on weekdays only from Tuesday, September 8th through Friday, October 30th.

Setting Up A Tour

Need to know how to book a tour? First of all, select 1 or 2 dates on which you'd prefer to come. Determine how many would be attending and then choose which tour (below) suits your expectations. Special sized caramel apples are offered for one dollar each to tour participants as well. Then email Jill C. at thelittlefarmer@rocketmail.com or call her at 920.921.4784. After booking, Jill C. will send a confirmation packet containing any further information you may need in addition to the caramel apple order form and tour check in form.

You can choose from four types of tours.

- $2.50Lasts about 35 minutes and includes a hayride and picking of an apple.
- $3.00Lasts about 45 minutes and includes a hayride, the picking of an apple and a pumpkin.
*Tours #1 & #2 are geared for very young children and/or for those who are limited for time.
- $3.00Lasts about one hour and 15 minutes and includes all from the *section below.
- $4.00Lasts about one hour and 30 minutes and includes a pumpkin and all from the *section below.
*Tours 3 & 4 contain the following five parts:

- 1)
The Bee House contains an observation bee hive that houses around 2000 bees. Your guide will discuss the importance of bees and their mission to collect pollen and nectar to make honey. The result of pollination is the apple they pick and eat today and the pumpkin they will take home (tour #4)!
- 2)
The Barn Classroom is furnished with haybales to sit on while your guide educates the students about Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and how seeds grow and the important roles that sunshine, water and air play in the growing of all plants (photosynthesis). You will see ladybugs in different stages of life and plants in different stages of growing.
- 3)
Tours are led into The Apple House where they will get the experience of going into our large Apple Cooler as well as view apples being washed, sorted and bagged in the grading room.

Board a 40-person hayride wagon that will take you through one of the orchards and fields and then the peaceful woods.
- 5)
In the orchard, your guide will show you how to pick an apple "the Little Farmer way". The children may eat it or take it home along with a coloring/activity book and apple cider.

Cultivating Apples has a long history spanning over 3000 years. The apple is in the pome family — a fruit whose seeds are embedded in the core of the fruit.

In late May. the pumpkin fields are worked in preparation for planting. We plant 20 varieties of pumpkins in about 20 acres of fields around the farm - this takes two people almost two days to do.
